A roof warranty is a formal guarantee from a roofing manufacturer and/or contractor that protects your roof against specific types of failures, usually related to materials or workmanship. But not all warranties offer the same protection.
Types of Roof Warranties
Material-Only Warranties: These warranties cover just the roofing material in the event of a manufacturing defect. If the product fails, the manufacturer will replace the material—but labor and associated repair costs are not included. Material-only warranties are often prorated, meaning coverage decreases over time.
NDL (No Dollar Limit) Warranties: These are more comprehensive and offer full replacement for system failures or defects, regardless of cost—even if the repair exceeds the original installation price. NDL warranties typically cover:

However, even NDL warranties don’t cover interior damage, and they typically exclude:
