Field Advisor

[feeld uhd-vahy-sor] Noun

A client-facing teammate who is responsible for administering flagship services. As the front line of the RoofingSource brand, they play a key role in delivering best-in-class service and building lasting relationships with our customers.

A Day In The Life

Below is the "typical day" of a Field Advisor. It's important to note that all days are different and travel obligations vary based on: the specific territory of each Field Advisor, weather patterns, and customer needs.

7:30 AM

Review upcoming service calls for the day. Check the RoofingSource app to route and confirm which client locations you’ll be traveling to today. Speak with your supervisor to make sure you have all your questions answered for your schedule.

8:00 AM

Complete an Initial Inspection at a Cracker Barrel. Find the manager on duty and introduce yourself before inquiring about any leaks and making your way to the roof. You'll then walk the roof and complete a full inspection documenting any defects or problems. In addition to performing any necessary preventive maintenance, you’ll repair the noted defects and document your work with photos, notes, and recommendations within our proprietary app: RSI. Check out with the manager on duty and talk them through the issues that you resolved and obtain a signature.

10:30 AM

Attend a once a week all-team meeting Log onto a video call for a “Torch Side Chat”. These weekly meetings are hosted by the Service Coordinator team and help to keep you updated and informed about industry best practices, safety, new client expectations, or inbound weather systems.

11:00 AM

Fix a leaking roof at a Taco Bell restaurant. Drive to your next service call at Taco Bell to fix a leak covered under RoofCare. Check-in with the manager on duty to determine where the leak is located. Repair the puncture causing the leak and document everything with photos. Check out with the manager on duty and talk them through the issues that you resolved and obtain a signature.

12:30 PM

Take your lunchtime break. You’ll spend this time resting, hydrating, and grabbing a bite to eat.

1:15 PM

Complete a GreaseCare service call at McDonald’s. Head over to your next call at a nearby McDonald’s. Speak with the manager and head to the roof. You’ll be completing a GreaseCare service call. In addition to a brief visual inspection of the roof, you will dispose of any existing grease containment pillows, replace them with fresh pillows, clean up any spilled grease, and document your work with photos and notes. Check out with the manager on duty and talk them through the issues that you resolved and obtain a signature.

3:45 PM

Go to Home Depot. Swing by the local Home Depot to pick up relevant materials for your service calls tomorrow.

4:15 PM

Check In. Give your supervisor a quick call to see if anything else needs to be completed for the day.

5:45 PM

Clock Out. Confirm your reports are completed and your receipts are uploaded for the day and then you’ll head to your hotel to get some well-deserved rest.

The Field Advisor position serves as the foundation of our organization. Several teammates, including our Director of Operations, Production Manager, and all members of the Field Support and Estimating teams began their careers at RoofingSource as a Field Advisor.

Field Advisors commonly pursue the following routes to hone their skills and use their field experience to advance their leadership and technical knowledge.

Tom Dawson

Director of Operations & Sales, Chicago, IL, Started as a Field Advisor in 2009.

Operations

The team that’s behind the scenes deploying nationwide teams to execute flagship services and large projects.

The Field Advisor position is the heartbeat of the company and is a great way to start with no experience in the roofing industry. My time as a Field Advisor gave me the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of RoofingSource from the ground up.

Sales

The team that fosters customer relationships and drives nationwide expansion.

After working 3 years as a Field Advisor, I transitioned to become a Field Representative. My advice for people coming in new, especially if they want to advance, is to learn as much as possible in the field.

John Barnes

Field Representative, Monroe, LA, Started as a Field Advisor in 2017

Tim Cruser

Field Supervisor, Wilmington, DE, Started as a Field Advisor in 2018

Field Support

The team that ensures teammates receive the necessary support while working in the field.

Beginning as a Field Advisor gave me the skills to effectively support our Field team. I’ve learned that development is fueled by consistent communication and utilizing all the resources that RoofingSource provides.

Training

The nationwide team that assists with both initial and ongoing training to support the field team.

As a Field Advisor, I was consistently seeing roofs and expanding my knowledge of roofing systems which ultimately prepared me to become a Field Trainer. At RoofingSource, if you put your mind and effort into where you want to be, you can make it a reality.
